-WORKSHOP -
FLYING FREE or  FABRIC COLLAGE ANIMALS AND BIRDS

Description:

We'll use bits and pieces of printed fabrics to "paint" a human or  animal portrait. Choose from one of my  many animal or bird designs   (see  PORTFOLIO page) or from a pattern I create for you from a photo you provide in advance.   We'll chop up our fabrics, divide them into values, and fill in the value marked pattern sections with corresponding value pieces of fabric
Add a bit of tulle, and some simple quilting and you will have created your unique masterpiece. If you prefer to finish your piece without sewing, that's okay too! No-sew finishing options are also taught. The results are wild, whimsical, and totally believable!
Instruction on the use of Adobe® Photoshop® Elements to create a pattern is included in the course.
No drawing skill needed, but expect to learn about values, contrast, lines, and eyes. And a new way of looking at fabric!

Level:

Beginner to expert. No drawing or sewing skills needed.

Instruction hours:

This workshop is available to be scheduled with guilds, retreats, or festival organizers either as a 6-hour in-person program (travel expenses additional or negotiable) or, as an online course of two 3-hour sessions delivered via Zoom in real time with full  interaction with teacher.

➢ Sheet of Steam-a-Seam, used to build your project.
This is “sticky” and will hold your pieces as you build your work.
Note: The Steam-a-Seam sheet is 18" wide. You will need to enlarge your pattern so it is also 18" wide, which will be the full-size of your pattern. You can print the enlarged image by selecting poster / tile in Paint or Photoshop. If you want to print via Adobe, save your image as a PDF file and select Poster in Adobe Reader, according to the correct size. You will need to tape together the tiled / poster pages to create your resized pattern.
Alternatively, take the image to a copy shop or send it to Blockposters.com and request the full-size image.
➢ Three sets of fabric pieces with a variety of values (light, medium, dark). Feel free to raid your scrap basket for more!
➢ Sharpie marker, for tracing the pattern.
➢ Glue Stick, for sticking down loose pieces.
➢ You will need a piece of fabric larger than your finished animal or bird(s) for background. You can audition your creature on various fabrics after the collage is made to see what you prefer
