WORKSHOPS CURRENTLY AVAILABLE

IMPRESSIONIST LANDSCAPE

We'll use bits and pieces of printed fabrics to "paint" a landscape, seascape or lava scape!  Besides learning the best rules of landscape composition, and the use of many novelty materials, there will also be Instruction and practice on the use of Adobe® Photoshop® Elements to create a pattern.  Add a bit of tulle, and some simple quilting and you will have created your unique masterpiece. If you prefer to finish your piece without sewing, that's okay too! No-sew finishing options are also taught.

No drawing skill needed, but expect to learn about values, contrast, perspective and the rules of composition. And a new way of looking at fabric! They'll have to look close to determine if it's fabric or an oil painting!

EMBELLISHED QUILTED VESSELS

Learn to make a simple pattern for a fabric vessel, cut the sides from stiff stabilizer, crazy quilt the sides. Then we'll have fun with decorative stitching, lots of embellishments  (learn to make fabric and ribbon flowers, beaded fringe, and many others) and tons of different ideas to decorate, then easily construct your one of a kind sculptural art. Pure fun!!!

CUBISM

Unleash your inner Picasso  and learn the simple rules of cubism to create your own design!  Bring it to life in applique or stained glass style. Or use one of my patterns. One day class incudes my stained glass technique and free motion quilting. If you prefer to finish your piece without sewing, that's okay too! No-sew finishing options are also taught.

WILD! FABRIC COLLAGE ANIMALS

We'll use bits and pieces of printed fabrics to "paint" an animal portrait. Choose from one of my  many animal or bird designs   (see  PORTFOLIO page) or from a pattern I create for you from a photo you provide in advance.   We'll chop up our fabrics, divide them into values, and fill in the value marked pattern sections with corresponding value pieces of fabric. Add a bit of tulle, and some simple quilting and you will have created your unique masterpiece. If you prefer to finish your piece without sewing, that's okay too! No-sew finishing options are also taught. The results are wild, whimsical, and totally believable!

Instruction on the use of Adobe® Photoshop® Elements to create a pattern is included in the course. No drawing skill needed, but expect to learn about values, contrast, lines, and eyes. And a new way of looking at fabric!

EASY STAINED GLASS QUILTS

Use any stained glass pattern, one of Phyllis’ (see them on the PORTFOLIO page), or create your own. You will then make a raw-edge fusible-appliquéd, and quilted piece that not only looks like real stained glass but requires no fussy edge treatments, no bias tape, no fussy quilting, and is quick, easy, and fun! Then we may add some optional oil stick painting, optional applique, or optional embellishment, and quilt either free motion or regular/walking foot.

This class is appropriate for beginners, who will learn basic free-motion quilting as well.

WILD! FABRIC COLLAGE FLOWERS

We'll use scraps of  your liveliest prints in three values of one color, or of all the colors you want to combine to create your own tropical flower. The results are beautiful and totally believable!

Choose from one of the many designs available (see them on the PORTFOLIO page) or from a pattern created for you from a photo you provide (email the photo in advance). Instruction and practice on the use of Adobe® Photoshop® Elements to create a pattern is included in the course.

PAINT-COLLAGE-QUILT

Starting with a line drawing  I'll provide one (or trace the main lines in a photo or painting, use Photoshop filter "Photocopy" or "line drawing" or just  the lines in a coloring book). We'll trace it onto fabric, color it in with oil pastels, then we'll use bits and pieces of printed fabrics to enhance the scene. Use as little or as much collage as you like!  Besides learning to paint on fabric,  the  basic rules of landscape composition, and the use of many novelty materials, there will also  be instruction and practice on the use of Adobe® Photoshop® Elements to create the  pattern.

Add a bit of tulle, and some simple quilting and you will have created your unique masterpiece. If you prefer to finish your piece without sewing, that's okay too! No-sew finishing options are also taught.

WET FELTED FLOWERS WITH BEADED CENTERS

We'll make easy very colorful flowers with a little wool roving, soap and water, I'll show you every step for a few different styles. Then we will do some easy and fast beadweaving centers (you could also use these for earring or pendants) that look like you spent hours. Two fun techniques in one class, with so many possibilities! Bet you can't make just one!

LAYERED PORTRAITS

Students in this class will learn the layered portrait technique. Amaze your friends and family! I will demonstrate how to manipulate photos and how to draw contour quilting lines, but for the one day class, I will create a custom pattern for each student  based on a photo emailed to me in advance. If you have a selection of photos, you may email them all to me and I will help you choose, and then you will get a pattern in class. Anyone who does not send me a photo will have a choice of mine (Ben Franklin, Johnny Cash, Einstein, Elvis, whoever I feel like printing out at the time). You can request one you see on the PORTFOLIO page.

In class we will use these patterns to cut, fuse and quilt (at least learn how ). You will choose the size for your portrait, from 8x10 or 16x20.
Class fee includes a  custom pattern with multiple pattern pieces and instructions for creating patterns in photoshop and step by step handout.

These are my students' self portraits, done by beginners! Or go wild with crazy prints as I did in my portrait of my grand daughters. See more on the PORTFOLIO page.
